Vienna Excursion

Hits: 1725

Two full days of information and edutainment – including a field trip, visit of two institutions and of course socializing – this was the first excursion of the new PhD students of the DK.

One month after starting the work at Z_GIS the new PhD candidates had the chance to visit Vienna together with several supervisors of the DK from a scientific perspective. The first afternoon was dedicated to an amazing sightseeing tour.

On the second day the PhD students had the opportunity to visit the Zentralanstalt für Meteorologie und Geodynamik (ZAMG) which offers a broad range of services, from weather forecasts to climate and earthquake monitoring as well as the constant analysis and prediction of atmospheric pollutants. After some inspiring presentations the students could attend a guided tour, finished by the famous “Radiosondenaufstieg”.

In the afternoon the PhD candidates visited the Austrian Federal Office of Metrology and Surveying (BEV) which is famous for control survey, administration and maintenance of the cadaster and the topographic survey.

The entire group appreciated their first gathering in Vienna with pleasant temperatures.
