First Symposium and Workshop of the Doctoral College took place on April, 20/21, 2012 at the University of Salzburg.

The DK GIScience Thesis Workshop 2012 is a Ph.D. thesis development workshop which is organized hand in hand with the public DK GIScience Symposium. The Workshop will be held on Friday April 20th and Saturday April 21st at the Faculty of Natural Sciences, University of Salzburg.

In the Workshop, the DK GIScience students defend their research proposal in an interactive session. Each research proposal has to be submitted prior to the Workshop and will be peer reviewed by a junior and a senior reviewer. The faculty and the associated faculty, as well as other experienced researchers, are invited to act as senior reviewers, and each DK student will act as a junior reviewer for one other research proposal.

In an inspiring academic environment, the students will receive critical and constructive feedback and exchange comments and views on their doctoral research with other students, experienced researchers and (associated) faculty members.

The DK GIScience Symposium is a public forum in which Ph.D. students can meet and discuss their work with each other, as well as with a panel of experienced researchers and practitioners. The symposium will be held on Friday afternoon on April 20th at the Faculty of Natural Sciences, Hellbrunnerstraße 34, University of Salzburg.

We encourage the participation of all doctoral students enrolled at the University of Salzburg in the field of GIScience and Geoinformatics and for these to present their research in an interactive poster session. Participants will depict the essence of their doctoral research at the Symposium in form of a poster and an elevator pitch (short speech). The short presentations will be grouped into two consecutive sessions followed by discussions.

The symposium offers Ph.D. students the opportunity to present and discuss, receive feedback, and exchange comments and views on their doctoral research in an inspiring academic community of Ph.D. students, experienced researchers and faculty members of the GIScience Doctoral College at the University of Salzburg.
