PhD thesis topic: His research interest focuses on automatic EO image processing and spatial databases in the context of remote sensing, image retrieval and big (earth) data

Martin Sudmanns completed his master studies in Applied Geoinformatics at the University of Salzburg in 2016 with distinction. The master thesis focused on Content-Based Image Retrieval (CBIR) and large-scale processing of remote sensing images using array databases. He finished his bachelor studies in Tübingen in 2012 with an award from the Department of Geography for the best bachelor thesis. His education at the Universities of Salzburg and Tübingen included Geography, Geoinformatics and Computer Science with focus on spatial databases and OGC Web Services.

He was involved in various research projects at the University of Salzburg, including the Austrian FFG-funded AutoSentinel 2/3 project which has been awarded with the Copernicus T-Systems Big Data Challenge Award 2015 and the DFG-funded Urban Emotions project. He has previously also worked at the Chair of Geoinformation Engineering at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Zürich (ETHZ), Switzerland (2015), the World Data Center for Remote Sensing of the Atmosphere at the German Aerospace Center (2013) and the DFG-funded Roceeh project at the Heidelberg Academy of Sciences and Humanities (2011-2012).

His research interest focuses on automatic EO image processing and spatial databases in the context of remote sensing, image retrieval and big (earth) data, for which he received a 4-years PhD position at Z_GIS.
