PhD topic: The role of spatiality, mobility, and human scale in urban livability assessment

Anna Kovács-Győri studied Geography with a specialization in GIS at the Department of Physical Geography and Geoinformatics, University of Szeged, Hungary. Within the framework of her Master’s degree program, she spent one semester as an exchange student at Z_GIS.

She was a student research fellow at the Disaster Management Directorate of Csongrád County, Hungary from the summer of 2013. The main focus of her master thesis was the examination of some GIS methods to get to know how they can improve the flood evacuation plan of Szeged city. It included allocation and scenario analysis, demographic statistics, and effective route planning.

After obtaining her Master’s degree she was working for Budapest Közút as a GIS technician. Her task was checking and verifying the LiDAR and vector-based datasets related to the road network, and the road system for public transport in the capital of Hungary.

At the Doctoral College, she addresses the topic of urban livability under the supervision of Prof. Thomas Blaschke. The main purpose of her work is to promote urban planning and decision making by exploring underlying urban interrelationships and phenomena using a GIS approach.

As a geographer she likes hiking but besides geography and professional things she is interested in Chinese language and culture as well."
